Davontae Merriweather returns for his 7th season for the Arizona Rattlers and the Indoor Football League in 2025.
Merriweather finished the 2024 season as the MVP of the National Championship Game versus Massachusetts. A dominant force on defense, Merriweather amassed 405.5 tackles, 49 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, 14 interceptions, 31 pass breakups, and 35 touchdowns. He has also contributed on special teams with 41 kickoff return yards and four touchdowns.
Merriweather’s impact has earned him numerous accolades, including the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year and 2019, 2022, and 2023 First Team All-IFL honors.
Following a rash of injuries to the secondary, Merriweather re-joined the Rattlers in 2021 in early August after spending time with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League (CFL).Â
Before playing in the IFL, Merriweather played collegiately at West Texas A&M University. At Saddleback College, he earned first-team all-conference honors with 55 tackles, three forced fumbles, seven interceptions, and one touchdown.Â
Merriweather played high school football at Highland High School (Palmdale, CA), where he earned first-team all-conference as a defensive back.Â
