Biography:
PROFESSIONAL Dane Krager is entering his fifth year in the AFL, his first with the Arizona Rattlers. Last season with the Austin Wranglers, Krager recorded 21 tackles, 15 assists, three sacks and an interception. On offense, he tallied 28 yards on 13 carries and a catch good for nine yards. In 2006, Krager led the AFL in rushing with 197 yards and set a Wranglers record with 12 rushing touchdowns. He started the entire regular season, playing both offense and defense in 13 out of the 15 games. For his efforts, Krager earned All-Ironman team accolades. Off the field, Krager’s work with the community earned him the distinction of the Al Lucas Hero award, which recognizes the Arena Football League player who “makes the most significant contribution to both his community and the game of Arena Football.” Earned US Army Ironman of the Game honors in three games; vs. Las Vegas (1/27), at Arizona (2/3) and vs. Grand Rapids (5/7). Was named Offensive Player of the game at Orlando (5/12). In 2005, Krager rushed 31 times for 59 yards and five touchdowns and caught seven passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Was named US Army Ironman of the Game at Las Vegas (3/4) after recording a game changing interception and fumble recovery in his first game back after knee surgery. Earned ADT defensive Player of the game honors against Orlando (5/7) with two tackles, two passes defended and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. In his 2004 rookie season, Krager led the Wranglers in rushing with 412 attempts for 152 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for over 20 yards in 3 games and ranked 10th in the AFL for rushing. Krager signed as a free agent with the Seattle Seahawks in 2003 and was allocated to NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire. In 2002, Krager signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent.
COLLEGE Krager attended Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas where he ranked first in Angelo State history with 31 career sacks. He finished his college career ranking ninth on the school's career tackle list and was a first-team All-Lone Star Conference, Daktronics first-team All-West Region and All-America, Associated Press Little All-America, Division II Football.com Co-West Division All-America and Defensive Player of the Year in 2001. In 1999, Krager set the Angelo State single-season record with 15 sacks in 1999. He also threw the javelin for their state track team.
HIGH SCHOOL/PERSONAL Dane Krager was born May 18, 1979 in Austin, TX. Krager was an All-District and All-State honorable mention football player at Leander High School. He still holds the Leander High School record for touchdowns in a game with 24. In 2005, Krager played the stunt double role of Denver Bronco star Bill Romanowski in the movie The Longest Yard. Krager resides in Austin, TX.
