Kurt Kahui is entering his first season in the AFL with the Arizona Rattlers. Waived by the NFL’s San Diego Chargers on August 1, 2007 after playing for the Chargers’ NFL Europe affiliate, the Amsterdam Admirals, from February 2007 until the league folded in June 2007. Before being allocated to
Europe, Kahui was signed to the Chargers’ practice squad on December 13, 2006 as an undrafted rookie free agent.
COLLEGE
Kahui played his collegiate ball at
San Diego
State
University from 2002-05. He played in 31 games for the Aztecs over his career, finishing with 105 tackles (60 solo, 43 assisted), 11.5 tackles for loss for minus-67 yards, five sacks, two pass breakups, a quarterback hurry, and one fumble recovery. As a senior, he tallied 72 tackles, five tackles for loss, and three sacks. He was named Mountain West Conference all-second team as a defensive lineman. As a Junior in 2004, Kahui started five games for the Aztecs, and played in 10 overall. He finished the season with 25 tackles, including 15 solo stops, one fumble recovery, 3.5 tackles for loss, and a sack. In 2003, he played in four games and was credited with five tackles, including a pair of stops against defending national champion
Ohio
State . He added a sack and two tackles for loss before his season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken arm at
Utah (10/11003). He played in five games as a freshman in 2002, making three tackles and one tackle for loss.
