![]() In just 17 years, the U.S. Airways Center, formerly known as America West Arena, has established itself as the premier sports and entertainment venue in the Southwest.
Opened on June 5, 1992, the arena has hosted major sporting events including the 1993 NBA Finals, the 1993 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, an Oscar de la Hoya bout in 1993, the 1995 NBA All-Star Game, the 1999 and 2004 NCAA Men’s Basketball West Regional Finals, ArenaBowl XI and XVIII, and the 2000 WNBA All-Star game. The arena has also been named as the home for the 2009 NBA All-Star game. In addition to the Arizona Rattlers, U.S. Airways Center serves as home to the NBA’s Phoenix Suns, the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury and the ECHL’s Phoenix Roadrunners. The arena has also featured entertainers ranging from Billy Joel, Celine Dion, and Elton John to stage shows such as Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, WWE Wrestling and Disney on Ice.
