ARENA FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE
Alan Harper is entering his 4th season in the AFL and first with the Rattlers. He is a natural defensive lineman who is powerful and compact with excellent lower body strength. Harper joins the Rattlers after playing most recently in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the BC Lions. Before playing for BC, Harper spent three seasons in San Jose from 2006-2008. In 2008, Harper recorded four sacks, 19.5 tackles, four tackles for loss, and finished second in the AFL with five forced fumbles. In ’07, Harper started on the defensive line in all 10 games he played. He posted 21 tackles, 6.5 TFLs and three sacks. On 6/9/07 against Utah, he tied a team single-game record with 2.5 sacks, including his 1st career safety, and earned Defensive Player of the Game honors. In the postseason for the SaberCats, Harper started all 3 games and was credited with 1.5 tackles in ArenaBowl XXI. In 2006, Harper started on the defensive line in both games he played during his rookie season. He made his AFL debut by starting on the defensive line and recorded a pass breakup against the Rattlers.
OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Alan was a 4th-round draft pick (121st overall) of the New York Jets in the 2002 NFL Draft. He was inactive for all 16 games during his rookie season and spent time on practice roster in 2003 before being allocated to NFL Europe where he played for the Scottish Claymores in 2004 posting 36 tackles and three sacks starting all 10 games. Harper Played in 11 games with the Jets in 2004, including recording six tackles and saw action in both playoff games totaling three tackles. In 2009, Harper was signed by the CFL’s BC Lions on 11/18 and played in the team’s final three games before being released in June of 2010.
COLLEGE
Played four seasons (1998-01) at Fresno State University. He was a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference first-team pick and started 45 of the 50 games he played. Harper moved into the starting lineup early his freshman year and totaled 233 tackles and 21.0 sacks in his career and was named to the Lombardi and Outland Award watch list as a senior. Alan was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year and All-WAC first-team selection in 2001 after leading the league with 12.0 sacks. He was also named a First-team all-conference as both a sophomore and junior. Harper finished his sophomore season with 80 tackles and 5.0 sacks and played in every game as a freshman and posted 39 tackles for the season.
HIGH SCHOOL/ PERSONAL
Born Alan Steven Harper on September 6, 1979 in Fontana, California, he attended Fontana High School his senior year collecting 87 tackles and 8 sacks to earn All-Inland Valley honors. Harper totaled 63 solo tackles and 3 PBUs on a team that went 11-1-1 while being named as an All-San Andreas League pick as a sophomore and junior while at A.B. Miller High School in Fontana. Harper majored in Sociology while at Fresno State.
