Danny WhiteDanny White returns to the Rattlers this season as Team President after spending 2006-08 as the Head Coach of the Utah Blaze. As president, White will oversee the marketing and business aspects of the franchise.
This season will be Whites 14th as a member of the Arizona Rattlers and 17th overall in the AFL since he became the Rattlers first Head Coach and general manager in 1992. White spent 13 seasons with the team before leaving in 2004. In his AFL coaching career, White has compiled a 142-82 record overall and a 121-55 record with the Rattlers. He is second in league history in victories and his .630 overall win percentage is ninth in AFL history. He has coached the second most games ever in the AFL (257), including both regular season and post season. He is 20-13 all-time in the playoffs with his 20 victories being good for second all-time. His .606 post-season win percentage is fourth all-time among coaches with more than six postseason appearances. White led the Rattlers to five ArenaBowl appearances in 1994, 1997, 2002, 2003, and 2004 and won two AFL championships in 1994 and 1997. White won the AFL Coach of the Year with the Rattlers in just his second season in 1993 and was inducted to the AFL Hall of Fame in 2002. Along with being an AFL Hall-of-Famer, White has also been inducted into three others including the Arizona Sports, Arizona State University, and College Football Halls of Fame. In 2000, White was named Arizona Athlete of the Century by the Arizona Republic. The past three seasons, White has coached with the Utah Blaze, leading the team to the playoffs all three years. One of the brightest offensive minds in the game, White led the Blaze to record-setting offensive numbers in his three seasons. In 2007 under White, current Rattlers and former Blaze receiver Siaha Burley set the AFL (and Pro Football) all-time marks with 166 catches and 2,129 yards receiving (only player in pro football history with over 2,000). Former Rattlers Quarterback, and local high school product, Joe Germaine set many AFL marks under White, including a new single-season passing mark with 5,005 yards, while his 107 touchdown passes that year rank third all-time. In his 16 overall seasons, Whites offenses have ranked in the top-five in scoring 11 times and have finished in the top-five in total yards 10 times. His teams never finished out of the top-nine in either of those categories. White is most commonly known as the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, where he played 13 seasons from 1976-1988, and had a 67-35 record as a starter. He finished his Cowboys career going 1,761 for 2,950 passing with 21,959 yards, 155 touchdowns and 132 interceptions and made the Pro-Bowl team in 1982. He broke the Cowboys single-season touchdown passing record in his first season as a starter in 1980 with 29 TD passes. He led the Cowboys to the playoffs five times and won three NFC East titles. He also set the Cowboys single-season record for completions with 334. He still holds seven Cowboys records at quarterback and punter with most completions and attempts in a playoff game (32/53), single game passing percentage (87.5%, 21-24), four or more touchdown passes in games (eight), most punts in a game and career (11, 612) and seasons leading the team in punting (nine). White also retired with the highest career completion percentage (59.7%, now 3rd), most pass attempts in a season (533, now 2nd) and passing yards in a season (3,980, now 3rd). Before playing for the Cowboys, White starred locally at Arizona State University. He completed 387-of-721 passes (53.7%) for 6,717 yards, 64 touchdowns, and 42 interceptions. He set seven NCAA passing records and in 1973, his passing and running game placed him second in the nation in total offense. Sports Illustrated named White as the second-best college quarterback of all-time. White played his high school ball locally in Arizona at Mesa Westwood High School, the same school as current Rattlers receiver Siaha Burley. White and his wife Jo Lynn have four children, Ryan, Geoff, Heather, and Reed. They also have nine grand children. Aside from enjoying time with his family, White stays actively involved in the community, donating his time and efforts to various charities. |
