As the Arizona Rattlers enter training camp, they announced today the return of award winning, record-breaking QB NICK DAVILA for his third season with the Arizona Rattlers.

In his second season with the Rattlers, Davila continued to break records and was named 2011 AFL National Guard MVP of the Year, the first time the AFL has handed out an MVP award since 1995.  He led the league in pass efficiency (127.6) and ranked second in completion percentage (70.7) and pass completions (427).  Davila also led the Rattlers to their best regular season in the Rattlers 18 year franchise history, notching 16 wins and just 2 losses.  Under Davila’s leadership, the Rattlers won the National Conference Championship and returned to the Arena Bowl for the first time since 2004.

In 2011, Davila broke many of his own franchise records that he set in his rookie year of 2010, including the most passing yards (4,916), pass completions, and TDs (117).

Minimum qualifications include at least two years of experience in any of the following areas, public address announcing, broadcasting and/or performing arts.

Qualified candidates should send a resume and a sample of work prior to auditions for review to KHelt@azrattlers.com or drop off at US Airways Center (201 E. Jefferson St., Phoenix). Preferred formats include: DVD, link to any online samples (i.e. YouTube, Vimeo, online portfolio, etc) or digital file (mp4, .mov or other standard video files).

The PA announcer will kick off their first official appearance when the Rattlers host the Milwaukee Mustangs on March 17.

After attending University of Virginia and being a four year letter winner with their Cavaliers Football Team, Gould debuted with the Chicago Rush in 2010.  He had a record-breaking rookie season,  PATs made (113), points (158) and consecutive PATs (35)  but was hampered with a hip injury in and on IR for 4 weeks in 2011.  Despite that, he scored 93 points, was 1st in the AFL for field goal percentage (73%) and tied for 2nd in extra point percentage (93%).

Open Tryouts will be held this weekend on the Rattlers’ grass practice field.at the Gene Autry Sports Complex, 4125 E. McKellips Rd, Mesa, AZ

The tryout will run from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Cost to participate is $80.00. Payment must come in form of cash or money order.  Registration starts at 8:00 a.m. and ends at 8:55 a.m. Participants must be registered to participate.

Participants must bring their own cleats, shorts and accessories. No pads or helmets are required. All camp activity is non-contact. Participants must show up ready to go, no locker room facilities will be made available. However, bathrooms are available.

Dukes (6-3, 280, Michigan State) most recently played with the Tampa Bay Storm, where he was named the League’s Game Tape Exchange Defensive Lineman of the Year after leading the League and setting a Storm franchise record with 16.0 tackles for loss last season.

An All-Arena selection in 2010 and 2011, Dukes has collected a league-high 21.5 sacks over the past two seasons, including 12.5 last year. He earned Defensive Player of the Week honors twice in 2011, once for his four-sack performance against the New Orleans VooDoo in Week 1, and again in Week 11 against the Spokane Shock after recording three tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and a blocked kick. Dukes has played his entire AFL career in Tampa Bay

Dukes graduated from Michigan State University, where he started in 35 games with the Spartans, and collected 15.5 sacks.

He also spent time on the NFL rosters of the St. Louis Rams, New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions as well as the Toronto Argonauts in the CFL.

The Rattlers will have their own branded area open to the public at the upcoming Waste Management Phoenix Open in Scottsdale.

The Rattlers and its marketing agencies — Fisher Design and Steve LeVine Entertainment and Public Relations — will have a 100-foot by 50-foot area near the golf tournament’s first hole for fans. The area is a replica of an arena football field and will have dasher boards with team sponsors’ names similar to the team’s field at US Airways Center    .

The Rattlers zone at the golf tourney also will have concessions and drinks, along with team players, coaches and cheerleaders.

The Rattlers are marketing tickets for the upcoming season and trying to boost business sponsorships.

Season tickets to the indoor football team cost between $90 and $990 per seat. Single-game tickets cost between $11 and $125. Other new marketing and advertising programs will be rolled out in the coming weeks.

Scotttsdale businessman Ron Shurts bought the majority stake in the Rattlers last year fromMike Galloway. Shurts is co-founder of Annexus Group Inc. in Scottsdale, a financial service and investment firm and a major sponsor of the Phoenix Suns    . Both the Suns and Rattlers play at US Airways Center in downtown Phoenix.

Shurts has promised to up its marketing efforts.

The Phoenix open runs Jan. 30 to Feb. 5, ending just before the National Football League   ’s Super Bowl.

Huey signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011.

After being waived by the Seahawks, Huey was picked up by the San Diego Chargers as a free agent in 2011.

Huey played college football at Texas were he was a four-year guard who played in 47 games, starting 20 (2007-2010).

In 2009, Huey was an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection. During his career he was a three-time member of UT’s Athletics Director’s Honor Roll and a second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.
