Defensive Coordinator
Omarr Smith enters his fourth season coaching in Arena Football, and his third with the Arizona Rattlers. This will be his 13th season of overall Arena Football experience.
Smith coached the 2009 season for the Arkansas Twisters (arenafootball2), instructing the team’s defensive back corps. Under his tutelage, the team was highly ranked in many key categories, including overall defense, passing defense and turnover margin. The Twisters ranked second in the af2 in opponent first downs and sixth in allowed third down conversions. Smith also coached defensive backs for Whittier College & Phoenix College.
Smith played mostly defensive back for nine seasons in the AFL, eight of them with the San Jose SaberCats. He won four championships in his eight years, three of them consecutively (2002-04). During his career, he had 35 career interceptions and eight career INT returns for touchdowns. Smith was named the Defensive MVP of ArenaBowl XXI, his fourth championship. He played four years at DB at San Jose State University, where his 13 career interceptions rank second highest in school history.
His full name is Omarr Ali Hasan Smith. Was born April 7, 1977 in Chicago, Illinois. Omarr has done work in broadcasting, covering various junior college football, high school football and volleyball games. In his spare time he enjoys bowling. Recently received his Master’s Degree in Administration of Justice and Security from the University of Phoenix.
