MESA, Ariz. – The Arizona Rattlers announce the assignment of FB ODIE ARMSTRONG and FB VAN STUMON.

“The fullback position is very critical in terms of protection,” said GM/HEAD COACH KEVIN GUY. “The center and fullback work together to develop mid-line protection. For the fullback, it’s about blocking, running ability and receiving – in that order. We go as our quarterback goes and that is why protection is our number one priority.”

In his first season as a Rattler in 2011, Armstrong put together a record-setting season, carrying the ball 77 times and breaking single-season franchise records with 295 yards on the ground and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Armstrong’s biggest performances came in three divisional games against the Spokane Shock, where he racked up a combined 20 carries for 95 yards and seven touchdowns. Armstrong also tallied a three-yard receiving touchdown against the Shock in those games.

In 2010, he led the AFL in rushing while with the Tulsa Talons, racking up 349 yards and 13 touchdowns on 74 carries for an astounding 4.7 yard average. Armstrong was also a part of the Talons’ 2007 championship team. He spent 2009 with the California Redwoods of the UFL.

With the Orlando Predators in 2008, Armstrong was named to the AFL’s All-Rookie team after rushing 39 times for 102 yards and two scores, while adding 20 receptions and 258 yards and seven touchdowns.

Stumon played at the University of Arkansas (2006-2010) where he collected four receptions for 25 yards and two touchdowns.

The fullback participated in the St. Louis Rams 2011 training camp.
